I tried Switch, but it just crashed when I tried converting WMA formats.

Audion worked, and though it may be a little slow at least it's free and fine.

What kind of navigation do you mean? You can click on the left or right side of the photo to go forward/back through a set of images.

For anything more complex, I think you need to look at other, more complete, photo gallery solutions. The appeal of Lightbox is that it is lightweight and simple.

Use the chaining/batch functionality of Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) to convert format xyz to mp3. File -> Apply chains.. Works great for me…

I wish I could get cat pellets, though. Someone in my neighbourhood has a cat that they don’t keep in their yard, and it keeps coming over and killing lizards and birds. I wish I could find a way to keep it out!

To get to the command line, find and run an application called Terminal (should be in your Applications folder). That’s the command line!

This is great! I was searching around for hours for anything that would allow me to recreate a DVD that would not play in DVD players (due to a worn surface). MTR ripped it fine, but I was stuck on how to get it back on a DVD without spending $50-$100. You tha man!

It would be nice if you could turn something like that into a steady, part-time income.
I would never have not that you would be able sell novelty chewing gum - that there would be buyers for it. I suppose that is part of the beauty of eBay though, such a huge pool of buyers and sellers to draw from.

I guess you can convert files in iTunes with the Automator if you use the action under the following link: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/dougsactionsforitunes,volume1.html

I haven’t checked, but somehow it must be possible to reduce work.

@can emrah: thanks for that great advice IT WORKS. thanks to automator. some additional information to make the whole thing not too cumbersome. Why don’t use automator for that???

convert the first file manually and DO all the settings that all following files should have
USE MP4 format when exporting the file. USE the OPTION to CHANGE under AUDIO the quality of the file. I choose 123 kbit/s.
SAVE
for all other use the AUTOMATOR (select all files and right click and create a new Automator work flow) If you do not have the option in the menue search for the automator program, open it and go under FINDER ACTIONS in the AUTOMATOR and choose something like “use finder objects” (I do not know the exact translation). Drag and drop the files you want to convert into the action menue (on the right side).
choose the downloaded action and put it under the “use finder objects” and select MP4
press the run button
drop all the converted files into iTunes and convert them to your preferred file format. Unfortunately you have to edit the tags yourself unless someone knows another action for that

This is another free way to do it. Hope it helps.

I would like variable-speed playback on my iPod. In particular, I’d like to be able to slow it down when playing back audio files, for better comprehension when listening to language-learning mp3’s. Second, third, etc. languages are much easier to understand when slowed down just 10 or 20 percent.
So I agree, incremental speed control would be great. And for native-language podcasts or audio books, it would be nice to speed them up.

Thanks for the tip about converting your file to AAC and making it an audiobook… I may use that. The approach I’ve been using is to slow the file down using 3rd-party software (e.g. the free Audacity) before putting it on my iPod. Of course this takes additional storage space if you want both slow and regular versions.
